Welcome to Bergen

It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to our Conference on the Status of Nordic Health Promotion Research. Progress during the Decade after the Ottawa-Charter. Our aim is to provide an opportunity for an intensive review, and summing up, of health promotion research efforts that have been established throughout the Nordic region within the five sectors of the Ottawa Charter: build healthy public policy; create supportive environments; strengthen community action; develop personal skills; and to reorient health services.

We need to learn about each other's work, including work-in-progress. Therefore we are very happy that more than 120 persons have taken their time to participate at this conference. We want to contribute to the establishment of linkages between disciplines, and we are very pleased that researchers from humanistic sciences, social sciences, political sciences and medical sciences are represented here.

We hope that you all will listen and talk to each other. The content of the conference is constituted not only by the presentations, but just as much by discussions and interaction by the participants.

Please enjoy your stay in Bergen. We wish you a stimulating conference!
