Abstract

School is considered one of the most important setting for health promotion. Reasons for this are that all children and young people can be reached in school. At the time when life style is established and risk-behaviour often starts school is a natural setting for intervention. There is a strong correlation between riskbehaviour and school-alienation. Health projects above all have had an impact on health of children who do well at school. How shall health education and promotion be implemented? Is there a need for more health education projects? Until now health workers / researchers have persuaded school to participate in health projects. What is needed is "school-development-projects". Today schools are strongly occupied with development. Health workers/researchers can co-operate with schools to develop schoolpractise. The swedish curricula is a good instrument for such a development. This project started with a critical review on health education, health promotion and excellent schools. Combined with a salutogenic model the project will try to find instruments where health-development can be attained simultaneously with educational progress. To be able to get that work in practise you must ask basic questions about health education and health promotion and work together with teachers and school- departements. The empirical part of the project has started with projectsgroups in some schools and communities in Dalarna. Some preliminary results will be presented.
