Abstract |
Cirkus Piggelin is a mobile health education program with children 6-12 years old as target group. During its first year Cirkus Piggelin visited 50 schools and 9.500 children saw the performance. Cirkus Piggelin awakens the children´s curiosity and gives them an event, something funny, something to relate to, something that awakens their thoughts about their bodies and health. Cirkus Piggelin is an example of a new strategy to develop and implement the concept of Healthy schools in a geographical area. The Cirkus Piggelin performance is preceded by an information meeting with the school staff. After the performance the teachers take an active part in following up the performance and use the themes for health education supported by Cirkus Piggelin educational materials. A quality assessment of Cirkus Piggelin was carried out 1997. Focus group interviews with teachers and questionnaires have been used for assessment of the teachers´views on the performance and the impact in the schools. An assessment of the childrens´ views is planned as well as a workshop on the educational theories behind the Cirkus Piggelin concept. |
