Abstract

Sweden's National Institute for Working Life has been commissioned by the EU to be a national centre for the project "Workplace Health Promotion" (WHP). The Federal Institute forOccupational Safety and Health (BAU) in Dortmund, Germany is co-ordinating a network comprising representatives of the 15 EU member states. The work includes organizing exchanges of information and experiences within Sweden; taking an inventory of, supporting and documenting innovative activities and projects in the field; and discussing and developing criteria for the evaluation of workplace measures. During 1997 a report entitled "What is Workplace Health Promotion? - A Swedish Perspective" has been produced and distributed to Sweden´s 700 units of Occupational Health Services (OHS). A survey of activities undertaken by these services are planned for the autumn 1998. The project is being implemented in collaboration with representatives of Sweden's National Institute of Public Health, the National Board of Occupational Safety and Health, the Swedish Joint Occupational Safety Council, the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO), the Swedish Employers' Confederation (SAF), the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Karolinska Institute, the Centre for Public Health Research at the University College of Karlstad, and the Department of Psychology at Stockholm University. Funding: the EU and the National Institute for Working Life Period: 1997 up to the end of 1999.
