Abstract

An evaluation of a project, aimed at helping young people to enter the labour market after having been unemployed for a longer period of time, has been made. The project took place in some communities in western Sweden and was initiated by The County Council, The County Administrative Board and the County Labour Board in The County of Alvsborg. The project can be described as a supportive environment project aiming at developing empowerment for individuals as well as groups. The participants of the project have worked in groups during a period of four months using an educational method, Problem Based Learning, (PBL) as their tool. This project has been evaluated by four students and a teacher from the Programme in Education and Health Promotion at Vänersborg University College of Health Sciences. In order to do so a mixed scientific approach was used, i.e. quantitative as well as qualitative methods. The results are based on interviews with and queationnaires answered by people involved on different levels in the project. We, the evaluators, would like to present the project as such, the participants' expectations and their attitudes to health and unemployment, the process in the groups as time went by and the results regarding the participants' situation at the end of the project.
