Re: Social Determinants Of Health: Their Relevance In The European Context

In Reply to: Social Determinants Of Health: Their Relevance In The European Context Readers, here are some questions that could form the basis of a discussion of this paper:

1. Do you agree that there is a unified European agenda for improving health and reducing inequalities - or are the needs of Central, Western and Eastern Europe all still quite different?

2. Inequalities in health have shown themselves as both persistent and increasing both in former communist countries and the West. Do you think they are inevitable and unavoidable or predictable and preventable?

3. Are the solutions to growing inequality in Europe social, political or technical ?

4. Much is known about the causes and consequences of differing morbidity and mortality across Europe . Do we need to know more about the differences in health and quality of life ?

5) Is there a hierarchy of causes of inequality in health status across Europe? If so - what are the root causes and at what levels might effective interventions be developed ?
