Hans Saan, NIGZ (Netherlands Institute for Health Education), the Netherlands, Bibliographical Notes

Email address: hsaan@nigz.nl

I studied Clinical and Cultural Psychology. Since 1973 I was a trainer in social skills training of public health, more specific I did the development of and training for Health Education, Mental Health Prevention, Patient-education and Health Promotion. In 1984 I joined the international network of Health Promotion pioneers and am a veteran of all major Health Promotion conferences. I facilitated many workshops and also provided a special musical contribution to some closing ceremonies. I published (mainly in Dutch) on the history of health promotion in the Netherlands, on Effectiveness and quality, on Snooker and waterpolo ( RCT and Health Promotion), drafted the Dutch professional profile of Health promoti-on specia-lists, the outline for post graduate training program HP for Netherlands SPH and wrote books on intersectoral action and  projectmanagement.  With Willy de Haes I initiated a national debate on adequate research for Health Promotion, resulting in new criteria for funding of practice-related research. At present I am at the Netherlands Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NIGZ) as senior consultant on policy, stra-tegy, quality and professional development. I am honorary member of the Dutch Health Promotion Association and member of the board of the Dutch Public Health Federation; also member of editorial board  of  Dutch and international journals on Health Promotion. My main fields of personal interest are at present: concepts and models for Health Promotion, including systems and complexity theory; processes like advocacy and networking, including the techniques of persuasion and negotiation and the combination of personal growth as part of professional development. But also some old blues, a new set of Tarot cards or a book on the history of mapping of Australia makes me happy. I most enjoy being part of the world wide Health Promotion family.
